Tonight the Festival officially opens at Swansea Museum and we are so fortunate to have Angela Maddocks to do the honours for us.
There are still people out there who think that textile arts in all their myriad forms are a bit twee and boring. I know, its hard to believe, well if you do come across one of these poor deluded people then point them in the direction of Angela's website. The work Angela is doing with the Florence School of Nursing at Kings College, London is quietly ground-breaking. We've all heard of Artists in residence, but Angela has been a Maker in residence, and has worked closely and collaboratively with the students.
Angela is keen to focus on the process of making as much as the finished article. When we are making we are learning, we are focused on the now, we are problem-solving and developing our creative potential. That is where the magic happens.
Please take a look at the things Angela has been involved in, it's so exciting and shows all that textiles can be and how important they are in all our lives. Touch is the very first sense we are aware of when we come into this world, we share our lives with textiles every day.
