We have been fortunate that other textile groups have come forward to exhibit their work in our exhibitions this year. Everyone has worked with the theme of The Sea and I'm sure there will be an enormous variety of textile art on display in Swansea and at Mumbles Pier. We have nine venues this year, with new sites including the foyer of the Dragon Hotel and The Beach Hut Cafe at Mumbles Pier. One new group is Cutting Edge Textiles - here is a summary of their exhibition and an invite to find out more about their group based in the Vale of Glamorgan.
A Celebration of Wales ’ Year of the Sea' - An exhibition of stitched and quilted artworks at Tapestri Café, Orchard Street, Swansea 10-24 August
Cutting Edge Textile Group’s 42 members meet monthly in the Vale of Glamorgan to create traditional and contemporary works of fabric art. As well as sewing, quilting, and embroidery some members develop their skills further at our Dyeing to Paint sessions where we print, stencil, dye and paint fabric. We therefore have a wide range of skills and expertise to share in a friendly and informal atmosphere and we are pleased to be given the opportunity to share our work with fellow enthusiasts at this year’s Swansea Festival of Stitch.
Over the last few months we have been beavering away to create an exhibition that will whisk you away to sunny shores. We have taken the Festival’s theme of the Sea and created 40 wonderful pieces of work that demonstrates the incredible talent of the group. In addition we have a postcard extravaganza of around 50 fabric cards - lovingly made at a fun workshop in the depths of the chilly winter months with a view to looking forward to those lazy hazy days of summer which have now arrived!
Our exhibition runs from 10-24 August 2018 at the Tapestri café, Orchard Street, Swansea – not to be missed when you visit the festival. We hope that you enjoy the show!
