Hope everyone is enjoying the Easter holidays and making the most of the respite from the rain. One of our Masterclass tutors revels in Colour whatever the Season! Mary-Clare Buckle puts different colours and textures together and the workshop on Wednesday 15th August will push us in the same direction.
She has been inspired by the treasures found at the V & A, especially the mediæval enamel and gold caskets, tapestries, and coloured Roman glass inset with gold, silver and semi-precious stones. Add to this her travels to India, Thailand, Morocco, Central and South America and you can understand the colour and opulence of her work. The richness of her sources and enjoyment of the allure of Gold and jewels is especially apparent in her Floating Felts series. Here fine felts have an integral light source - merging art with home decoration, to stunning effect and intentionally subverting the boundaries between art and interior design, by turning an artwork into an ‘art light’.
This is the original piece ... full of colour, texture and 'gold'!
Mary- Clare's work is generally abstract and encourages her students to work intuitively, using a source that can be of their own or from the materials she brings with her. She is not averse to political comment as her almost unravelling Union Jack makes clear!
So come prepared to her workshop on August 15th to enjoy using colour fearlessly and to great effect!
