Hi Swansea Festival of Stitch Supporters I went to see the Itchy Fingers Textile Group exhibition at the Swansea Museum during the week. The exhibition is on until Sunday October 1st and is well worth a visit if you are in Swansea. The theme of the exhibition was colour and was inspired by the work of Glenys Cour. There was a retrospective of Glenys’ work at the Glyn Vivian Gallery earlier this year. Before visiting this exhibition, I did not know Glenys’ work, I came away inspired by her use of colour and the range of media she used to explore her ideas and designs. I found her paintings very beautiful and the colours were extraordinary. I’m a big fan of the Abstract Expressionists, particularly Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock so Glenys’ work really resonated with me. The exuberance of the colour in Itchy’s exhibition was wonderful to see. I think the members had a lot of fun working on their pieces. I’ve tried to convey the variety of colours and tones in my photos. I’ve also included some photos of Glenys’ work so you can see the original references for the exhibition. I have known some of the members of this Group for quite a while now, it is lovely to see how their work is developing. I went to see the exhibition on a Tuesday afternoon and the museum was busy with a group of tourists (American, I think). It was great to see their interest in the exhibition and the numbers of photos being taken. Wouldn’t it be nice if the pieces displayed in Swansea inspired people in the United States to explore textile art and have a go themselves! Fiona
