Taking an experimental approach, we will explore different ways to incorporate a range of found objects into textile artwork. Wrapping; couching; binding; stitching, over, under, through… You will produce a series of unique samples to take away and form a springboard for further work. Bring along some of your own collected items and see what potential they hold.
Please bring along the following -
basic hand sewing kit (needles, threads, pins, scissors)
A small range of fabrics to use as backgrounds – these can be any colour but preferably plain, and a range of weights will be useful (cottons, linens and something with an open weave like netting or hessian will be useful too). Pieces don’t need to be big – around A4 size is fine.
A range of threads of varying thicknesses
Any small found objects you would like to work with - this will mean different things to each person so I don’t specify what. Examples are: seeds, sticks, washers, nails, tickets, feathers, keys, matchsticks, bottle tops, shells… I will bring lots to play with too, so don’t panic if you can’t think what to bring!
