MASTERCLASS ARTIST TUTOR
Mary-Clare Buckle was born in 1961 in Manila, Philippines, but grew up in Hampshire. She lives and works in the artists’ enclave of Abbotsbury, Dorset. She works from her studio in the garden with a view of the sea. Her Art Foundation was at UCA, Farnham (University for the Creative Arts), followed by a degree in 3-Dimensional Design at the Birmingham Institute of Art & Design.
She has developed a technique of mounting her work between acrylic sheets, which creates a floating impression. Light can interact with the ethereal, almost transparent pieces and the viewer’s eye is not constrained to the boundary of the frame.
Since the beginning of her career, she has always particularly enjoyed immersing herself in colour, which she feels is definitely one of the strengths of her work. In addition, her textile work is constructed in a very physical way, which she enjoys. Lately she’s been using photography, etching, drawing, paint and collage to move her work in a different direction.
She is represented by the Paragon Gallery in Cheltenham who have secured for her a series of commissions, including an ‘exploding’ EU flag to match her ‘exploding’ British flag series.
